While both brands share many excellent qualities and features, including convertible cots that grow with your child, there are some key differences in their offerings that can help make your purchase decision easier. Ultimately, it’s all about what matters most to you.
See how the brands compare for their hero furniture pieces, cot mattresses and changing solutions across style, quality of materials, longevity of use, sustainability and price.
Brands overview
Boori
Australian heritage | Timeless style and unique conversion technologies
The Boori brand was born in 1993 when a nursery retailer employee became more involved in their manufacturer’s processes, which eventually led to the opportunity of taking over that business and creating a new brand. Unlike many nursery brands on the market, Boori consequently has their own dedicated factory in China.
Boori has made a name for themselves worldwide through their colourful, convertible nursery furniture that grows from birth to beyond, but their range has also expanded to include everything from playroom furniture, to mattresses and bedding, adult beds and more.
Babyrest
Australian owned and made | Creating the safest sleeping environment for babies
Babyrest has been supplying Aussie parents with safe, high quality baby sleep essentials since 1976. Today, three generations later, the same family has expanded their original product range from paediatric-approved baby and toddler pillows and mattresses, to include premium nursery furniture, change mats, lambskin rugs and more.
In addition to being Australian owned, Babyrest offers a wide range of Australian made products manufactured in their Melbourne-based factory, using quality and sustainably sourced materials.

Cots overview
Both brands are beloved for their stunning furniture pieces. There are a variety of styles and price points available through both brands to suit every taste.
Some of the key differences you’ll notice are that while Boori has the widest range of fun colour options - including some pink and blue cot and chest sets - their furniture is made from softwoods, which while commonly used in carpentry, are less durable than the hardwoods Babyrest use.
Both brands make a point to use only sustainably sourced timbers, however, they differ in their furniture’s country of origin; while Boori’s furniture pieces are made in China, Babyrest’s furniture is manufactured in Poland and Malaysia. Both countries are renowned for their production of quality furniture, but have differing styles and production methods, allowing versatility and breadth of style choices.

Mattresses overview
An average child will spend approximately 65% of their first 12 months sleeping, and 50% of the following 3-4 years sleeping. Choosing a mattress that is both comfortable and offers the right support is one of the most important decisions you’ll make for your nursery. Sadly, many parents simply default to the mattress that comes with their cot – without considering its suitability.
The good news is that both Babyrest and Boori offer a range of mattress types and sizes. To help you narrow your options and make an informed decision, we compare a popular foam and innerspring mattress from each brand.
Please note that they each have additional mattresses not covered here, these comparisons are just to provide a general overview of the different options available to parents.

Key Babyrest vs Boori insights
Babyrest and Boori both offer excellent nursery essentials that are not only stylish but highly functional and with sustainability in mind. Offering a vast range of styles at various price points, you can find great solutions for the modern Australian nursery at both brands.
It ultimately comes down to what you value most in each category: is it style, price, functionality, quality of materials or longevity of use after baby grows up?
When it comes to the cots discussed here, Boori has the widest range of colour options available. They also have distinctive ‘princess style’ options that are not widely available from other brands. Meanwhile, Babyrest might appeal more to those with mid-century modern or beachy boho tastes. They also use hardwoods as opposed to softwoods like Boori, and manufacture their furniture pieces in Malaysia and Poland, whereas Boori manufactures their furniture range in their China warehouse.
Above: Babyrest mattress and pillow
Babyrest truly excels in the mattress department, particularly with their Australian-made, baby-to-toddler DuoCore foam mattress. Its unique technology, quality of materials and the fact that is locally made more than justify the higher price, especially when you consider the importance of choosing the right mattress for your little one. They also offer a wider range of sizes to fit most cots.
Both innerspring mattresses are highly rated through CHOICE and feature similar technology to maximize comfort and support, but again Babyrest takes it that little bit further, offering a damask cotton cover compared to Boori’s breathable polyester outer layer, while also being significantly more affordable.
Finally, the two brands take very different directions when it comes to changing solutions, offering parents options at varying price points. At the more affordable end of the spectrum, Boori’s 3 Drawer Chest Changing Tray and Soft Lux Change Pad solution comes to $158. It’s stylish, complements their range of chests and is easy to remove once no longer needed. Its main downside is that it is fixed, and therefore not portable. It is also only compatible with a select range of their chest of drawers.
Next, we have the Nova change mat at $207 which is portable and can simply be placed on any surface due to its extra high sides and grippy base. Most parents choose to position their change mat on top of dressers these days, making this a popular solution. It’s available in a range of popular colours to suit different nursery themes.
The most expensive solution is the Boori 3 Tier Changer and Soft Lux Change Pad solution at $388. It offers many benefits due to its multipurpose usage post-baby and two out of four wheels for portability. It is also a very convenient storage solution for nappies and other changing supplies, however, these days most parents use their chests of drawers for that. It’s also an extra furniture piece that takes up space, making it less ideal for those in small spaces. While it can be repurposed into things like a bathroom caddy post-nursery, far more affordable caddies (without the high sides) can be found on the market.
With each item bringing a host of unique benefits to the table, whether price, practicality or something else, at the end of the day it tends to come down to what would make the most sense for your family’s lifestyle. Do you live in a small space where multipurpose is key? Or do you have other busy little bees in the house that need constant supervision, making portability come out on top? Whatever your needs, we are confident there is a solution – we hope we’ve helped make the process of discovering it a little bit easier.
